After a rigorous, 9-month selection process, the URBAN REFUGEES team is thrilled to share that our Founder and Executive Director, Sonia Ben Ali, has been named a 2018 Ashoka Fellow.

This moment represents an extraordinary milestone for URBAN REFUGEES: Ashoka is the largest network of change agents promoting social innovation in the world. Sonia’s recognition marks a turning point for our work as a she joins 3,500 social entrepreneurs from 92 countries who have been part of the prestigious Ashoka network for 35 years.

We are especially eager to amplify this work, given the growing reality that the number of globally displaced people will quadruple by 2050: the need to build effective, sustainable solutions today is critical.  URBAN REFUGEES believes refugees themselves should be at the center center of these solutions, and we’ve proven that our approach works.
